Accessibility in Education: Moving Beyond Compliance to Inclusive Practice
Accessibility should never be a tick-box exercise—it must be a core part of a school’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. This session explores the principles and practicalities of creating accessible environments that empower individuals of all abilities to fully participate in school life.
From assistive technology to inclusive communication and physical spaces, this training will provide practical tools and insights to help schools move beyond legal compliance toward genuinely inclusive practice. The session will also highlight the importance of open dialogue and proactive planning with those who may require adjustments.
Training Topics Include:
- The legal and moral responsibilities of creating accessible environments
- What accessibility looks like in everyday school practice
- Building a culture of positive communication and collaborative planning with those in need of adjustments
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Be able to recognise different types of disabilities and understand their implications for accessibility and inclusion
- Know how to implement inclusive and accessible practices across all areas of school life
- Gain confidence in initiating constructive conversations about adjustments and accessibility needs
