Course outline
This six-part boxset is designed to support staff to deepen their understanding of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles and apply them effectively in their roles. Each one-hour session targets a specific aspect of EDI, enabling staff to build confidence, foster inclusive practices, and create supportive environments for both students and colleagues. The sessions cover foundational knowledge as well as practical strategies across a range of areas, including staff inclusion, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), gender and LGBT+ inclusion, safeguarding, and religious inclusion.
Session 1: Introduction to EDI – January 22, 2026 (10:30 – 11:30)
Learning Outcomes:
- Define key concepts: equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Recognise the importance of EDI in the school context.
- Reflect on personal and institutional practice and culture.
Session 2: Inclusion for Staff – February 25, 2026 (10:00 – 11:00)
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand how workplace culture affects staff wellbeing and retention.
- Identify barriers to inclusion among staff and strategies to overcome them.
- Explore ways to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all school employees.
Session 3: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) – March 4, 2026 (09:30 – 10:30)
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain a basic understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and legal obligations.
- Explore inclusive teaching strategies to support pupils with SEND.
- Learn how to collaborate with families and professionals to meet diverse learning needs.
Session 4: LGBT+ and Gender Inclusion – March 23, 2026 (14:00 – 15:00)
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand terminology and issues affecting LGBT+ students and staff.
- Identify steps to challenge gender stereotypes and support gender diversity.
- Implement inclusive policies and practices that affirm and safeguard LGBT+ identities.
Session 5: Safeguarding and Inclusion – April 22, 2026 (14:00 – 15:00)
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognise the intersection of safeguarding and inclusion, especially for vulnerable groups.
- Identify how exclusionary practices can lead to safeguarding concerns.
- Apply safeguarding principles through an inclusive, rights-based lens.
Session 6: An inclusive and diverse curriculum – May 18, 2026 (10:00 – 11:00)
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify key principles of curriculum diversification and recognize the importance of inclusive content in fostering equitable learning environments.
- Apply creative strategies to integrate diverse voices, perspectives, and cultural contexts into lesson plans and course materials.
- Evaluate existing curricula for gaps in representation and implement practical changes to promote inclusivity and cultural responsiveness.

Speaker:

Gaelle is Director of Research, Inclusion and IELAÂ and joined the BSA in January 2023. She is an experienced senior leader and has worked in a range of state and independent schools. She is a qualified SENCO and holds a Masters Degree in Inclusive Education. Prior to joining the BSA, Gaelle was Deputy Head Pastoral, DSL and Head of Boarding at an all-girls independent school in the South-East.
