This interactive seminar will equip new and aspiring SENCOs with the tools to create an effective and inclusive SEND strategy. Participants will explore the core responsibilities of a SENCO, learn how to assess current SEND provision, and identify areas for improvement through a structured approach. The session then guides attendees in developing a clear, goal-oriented SEND strategy that aligns with school-wide objectives and fosters a collaborative, inclusive environment. Practical tools for implementing and monitoring SEND support will be shared, along with frameworks for assessing student progress and adapting interventions as needed.

- Understanding the SEND landscape
- Where to start as a new SENCO
- Auditing and assessing current provision
- Embedding an inclusive SEND culture
- Strategy and action planning
- Reviewing and monitoring your provision and its impact

Gaelle Sullivan, Director of Research, Inclusion and IELA
Gaelle is Director of Research, Inclusion and IELA and joined the BSA in January 2023. She is an experienced senior leader and has worked in a range of state and independent schools. She is a qualified SENCO and holds and Masters in Inclusive Education. Prior to joining the BSA, Gaelle was Deputy Head Pastoral, DSL and Head of Boarding at an all-girls independent school in the South-East. She is a trustee at a leading independent boarding school.
