Naheed Bardai- INCAB Chair

Naheed assumed the role of Head of UWC Atlantic in August 2021.  As an educational leader, Naheed believes that education is a deeply moral endeavour, and the exercise of leadership demands a thoughtful ethical foundation: his rests on the pillars of pluralism, integrity, generosity, and trust.

Over his educational career, Naheed has had the privilege of working in two prior schools: most recently as the Head of Upper School at Upper Canada College in Toronto, Canada for six years and at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa in Kenya serving as Dean of Students and Principal of the Senior School over a 10-year period.

Naheed holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the Western University in Canada, a Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of British Columbia in Canada, a Masters of Arts from the Institute of Education, University College London in the UK and a Masters of Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University in the United States.

Naima Charlier

With a strong commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and promoting inclusive leadership, Naima Charlier is dedicated to creating environments where everyone feels valued and empowered. Naima is currently Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Responsibility at Wellington College, where she brings over 25 years of teaching experience, including settings across the UK, USA, Romania, and Hong Kong. With a background spanning Early Years, Primary, and Secondary education, she has held various leadership roles including Founding Head, Deputy Principal, and Director of Teaching and Learning. Naima holds an MBA in International Educational Leadership from UCL and serves as a Lead Improvement Partner for COBIS. Passionate about making a positive impact, Naima continues to champion efforts that support underrepresented groups and create spaces where everyone can thrive.

Mutisunge Edwards

Mutisunge  is the first ever full-time equity, diversity and inclusion lead at Christ’s Hospital School. Mutisunge Edwards is now working closely with staff in all departments, as well as with pupils, to help ensure that all aspects of the school’s work are viewed through the EDI lens. Her background is predominantly in Early Years education. Throughout her career, she has tried to implement change and integrate inclusion from a young age.

 

 Jemma Holroyd

Jemma is Head of Student Wellbeing at Queen Ethelburga’s. She has worked in education for 20 years in both the private and public sector. Jemma has been at QE for 16 years and oversees the pastoral and boarding provision; working with over 800 boarders from over 60 different nationalities with a team of 70 boarding staff. Ensuring everyone feels heard, is part of the community and can thrive is her top priority. Jemma is also the safeguarding governor for a federation of three local primary schools in North Yorkshire.

Sadia Hussain-Şavuk

Sadia started her teaching career in 2008 as a Biology teacher after having initially worked for the NHS as a scientist. Her interests and passions quickly led her into pastoral support where she recognised the need for more inclusive practices in education. She now works as an EDI education consultant specialising in anti-racism practices, and sits on a number of steering committees in EDI focused areas of Scottish education. In addition to her work towards improving experiences of BAME pupils in education she actively advocates for opportunities to create a more diverse teaching workforce and provisions of support to improve BAME staff retention.

Yasmina Koné

Yasmina is Deputy Lead of Hemisphere Education, a multi-award-winning brain-training platform improving racial literacy in schools. She’s spearheading Hemisphere’s adoption across the UK, building partnerships with leading schools, education partnerships and multi academy trusts. Prior to Hemisphere, Yasmina held senior roles at one of London’s top 10 start-ups, Beam, and Magic Circle law firm Clifford Chance. Her work has seen her feature in the BBC and The Lawyer, and she has been invited to speak in Parliament. Yasmina also holds several advisory roles, supporting companies and charities with commercialisation, growth and operations strategies. She combines strategic acumen with a commitment to social justice, and is passionate about the education sector’s role in creating a more inclusive society.

Ben Mearhart

Ben is the Diversity Equity and Inclusion lead across the three sites of the King’s School, Canterbury.  He has an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and across 10 years as a senior leader, including as a joint Headteacher, developed practices and curricula that progressed teaching, learning, outcomes and personal development to ‘Outstanding’ levels.   In over 20 years working in education Ben has taught children in each year group from age 2 through to 16, including as a class teacher and an English, Drama and Physical Education specialist.

Consulting, training and educating previously for Show Racism the Red Card, Think Equal and The Black Curriculum, Ben is a keen student of racial, social, emotional and somatic literacy and is especially committed to the practical and impactful steps that can support schools to evolve an inclusive and anti-discriminatory whole-school culture and to truly embed hidden histories and experiences throughout their curriculum.
